Carthage College Community Literacy Center
The Carthage College Community Literacy Center’s mission is to work with families of the Kenosha community to advance education through literacy programs and activities. We plan to offer a variety of literacy-related programming opportunities to elementary and middle school students, and to young families.
For more information about the center, please contact Professor Jackie Easley, director of the Carthage College Community Literacy Center, at jeasley@thelinktrack.com.

Plan to participate in any of the following 2024-25 programs and activities:
After-School Homework and Reading Help
3-5 p.m. Wednesdays
Want to get some help on a project, study a difficult subject, or just read with a mentor? Stop by our center after school on Wednesdays to work with a Carthage student on these and other school-related assignments or projects. We’ll also provide snacks to give you the energy to finish your work!
Family PJ Storytime
7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6
Caregivers and their young children (ages 7 and under) are invited to come to the literacy center in their pajamas for evening stories and activities. We will share in the joy of reading and make a special craft to take home as a memento of our time together. We’ll finish the evening with cookies and cocoa, so everyone is ready for bed when they get home.
Young Authors Program
9-10:30 a.m. Saturdays, Nov. 9, Dec. 14, Jan. 11
Calling creative writers, authors, and storytellers! Join our Young Authors Program for middle schoolers during Saturday morning writing workshops at the center. We will brainstorm ideas, help each other with our writing projects, and get our creative juices flowing so that you can make your dreams of becoming an author come true!
KinderArtists
1-2:30 p.m. Fridays, Nov. 22, Dec. 6, Jan. 10
Hey, Kindergartners! Join us for making art and reading books together! We will have fun exploring our creativity based on picture books, music, and poetry. Snacks will be provided, too!
English Language Cooking Session
6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16
Let’s welcome in the New Year by cooking warm, cozy soups together! We will cook and eat a delicious meal and practice English-speaking skills along the way. We will provide the food and kitchen space.
Happy Birthday, Dear Author!
Starting in January, 2025, we will provide a unique reading program for 1st-3rd graders in which we celebrate children’s picture book authors during the month of their birthdays. Kids will read books by the author featured that month (available at their local public library) and attend our birthday celebration at the literacy center. During the celebration, we will play games, complete craft projects, and enjoy a birthday treat.
